Hi Maura,
Your best starting-point is probably to use Acrobat Reader
to convert the PDF to PS.
After that you can convert to pretty well what you like.
I like to use ImageMagick's "convert" program for most
conversions.
To convert to PS using acrobat reader, you can
a) Open (view) the file with acroread, then print-to-file.
The printer output from acroread is PS.
b) Use acroread to generate the PS directly, without viewing.
The essential option for this is -toPostScript and the
basic command is like
acroread -toPostScript -pairs PDFfile.pdf PSfile.ps
There are many further options which control details of the
resulting PS file. See
acroread -help

Hi Maura, Ksnapshot (screen capture) might do the trick, depending on your output quality requirement and screen resolution. Have you googled? There are probably other solutions out there, too. regards, - Carl - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - C. E. Acrobat reader (acroread) will print postscript output to a file, then import the .ps Jim

Similarly gimp. Gimp also offers the possibility of cropping parts of the imported pages. You should also can adjust gimp's settings to get whatever quality you desire. Actually gimp uses ghostscript internally to render the PDF as bitmaps and ghostscript itself can create varios image file formats and interpret PostScript. So maybe it's worthwhile checking the gs options to see what they can do. -- JDL

You could always use kword to import the pdf document directly and then save it to whatever file format kword supports (Word and OOo 1.1.1 are supported). The only thing that usually gets mucked up is the formatting. -- Regards, Graham Smith ---------------------------------------------------------

Open the pdf with gimp. In the 'Load PostScript' dialog following the 'Load Image' dialog, set the desired page number of the pdf and the desired resolution. 300 dpi should be sufficient for normal use. Then save the picture as png or gif or whatever. SH
