Why do I get a spurious dialog requesting a username and password to connect to ftp.suse.com? If I need such, where/how do I get it? I got halfway thru a download and now I need a username/password to resume.
Well, I would assume that the download went so slow at one point that it disconnected you. You need to log in as anonymous and use your email address as the password which is how all anonymous ftp works. I would suggest using a client such as gftp or ncftp (if you prefer a terminal based app). These apps have auto resume. You can put an entry for ftp.suse.com in their bookmarks and it will use the same method to connect everytime and you can set them to auto resume the download if there is a problem. * Albert Wagner (alwagner@tcac.net) [010407 11:07]: =>Why do I get a spurious dialog requesting a username and password to connect =>to ftp.suse.com? Thanks, Ben. I use konqueror which normally does all of that, including resume. But occasionally I get that dialog and was just curious about the inconsistency. I strongly suspect that my machine is just so small (64Mb) that KDE just gets lost swapping. BTW, thank you for being so gracious to me and patient with my questions after I posted a rant and whine. I have already become a true believer in SuSE and YAST2. And thanks to yourself and others a true believer in this mail list as well. On Saturday 07 April 2001 13:18, Ben Rosenberg wrote:
