[opensuse] Just a bit of feedback for those outside the US where Hardware is relatively cheap.
The cost of hardware outside the US is very expensive. For example If I order a Dell P4 HT 3.2GHz with 1 GIG of RAM and say 80GB HDD this would cost aprox AUD1,500.00 or USD2,112.00 and 1 stick of 1GB DDR2 RAM AUD 169.00 USD 238.00 and HDD 200GB SATA AUD119.00 USD 167.00. I send this out just so you know the sorts of costs NEW or upgrading a PC is a very expensive proposition. A Business needing to upgrade hardware so that VISTA will perform is outrageous as you can see. This is why the AU Market is very interested in Linux now as current hardware with Linux installed is a very good proposition for a lot of medium to large businesses. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has access to this- I live in an area where the state government sells off surplus (and/or used) equipment. Anything you could just about think of.... Anyways, its been a good source of computer gear; I had a small cache of video cards that worked with Windows, but no flavor of Linux. I knew from my readings/experiences that ATI or nVidia work the best with Linux; just so happened, I went over to the surplus outlet and they had a box of new pci & agp video cards from ATI and nVidia. Quite a deal- each card was going for a $1 a piece. Its not unusual to find a working box with a P4 (1.x to 2), ram and a 20-40gb drive for around $100. I picked up a couple of 3Com ethernet cards for my laptop, for 50 cents a piece.
