I ran postfix check. There was no output from the command, and I have the same error. If change the "Outgoing mail server" through YaST are there changes I need to make elsewhere? Chuck

Check your /etc/postfix/master.cf if qmgr runs chroot'ed. If so, it uses diffrent files for dns-resolving than your "ping". Best to switch it off. Reload/Restart Postfix and try it again. -- Andreas

BTW...I also get the same error when I specify the IP address for
outgoing mail server.

Please try to set the Ip in brackets: [10.3.0.17]. -- Andreas

That's not enough. That machine must have a valid MX record in the DNS server. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson

If you put square brackets around an IP address, the MX lookup won't be done. E.g, relayhost = [10.1.1.1] Substitute the correct IP address for sloxmail. Postfix does DNS lookups. You can make Postfix work without DNS, but it takes more time than setting up a local DNS server. Or just use IP addresses. HTH, Jeffrey

Ah? Didn't know that.

Last time I played with that was with sendmail - and the normal postfix also complains, didn't occur to me use square brackets. What would happen if you try to email a destination by the IP, written on the email client? Last time I tried it didn't work. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
