[opensuse] Latest texlive update for oS 12.3
Hi all, I have just noted that the latest official texlive update from the repo-update for openSUSE 12.3 wants to install 749 upgrades and 348 new packages. No problem with the upgrades; the problem is about the new packages: they are all -devel and texlive-*-doc packages. In particular, the -devel packages are required by freeglut-devel that is required by texlive-asymptote. Now, the questions are: - is it correct that texlive-asymptote requires freeglut-devel? - how can I prevent the installation of all -doc packages? I do not need them and it is not feasible to add a lock for each of them (242 packages) Best, Andrea -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

As maintainer of TeXLive I had been told that asymptote requires freeglut development environment to be fully usable. Guess: this is required to link output of asymptote with freeglut library. -> closed this bug as WONTFIX Werner -- "Having a smoking section in a restaurant is like having a peeing section in a swimming pool." -- Edward Burr

As an end user "zypper rm texlive-asymptote" and all is good. Won't install a package that needs too much devel packages.
Just removing the *-devel* packages downgrades textlive-asymptote, no need to remove it. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I just uninstalled ALL of texlive and am waiting for the other shoe to drop, but so far I seem to use nothing that requires it. -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

And what about the -doc packages? It seems that the packages now recommend the corresponding -doc. So, is there a possibility to prevent the installation of texlive-*-doc without setting solver.onlyRequires = true in zypp.conf? Found it for zypper (command line option --no-recommends), but I have not found the equivalent one in YaST. Suggestions? Best, Andrea -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

What about Options -> "Ignore Recommended Packages for Already Installed Packages"? Regards, Werner -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

It does not prevent the -doc package to be installed if an update recommends it (just tried by downgrading a texlive- package: "zypper up" proposes to install the package and the corresponding -doc; "zypper up --no-recommends" proposes to install only the package; YaST -> "Update if newer version available" acts as "zypper up"). Instead, if I deselect such option, then YaST marks to install *all* packages recommended by already installed packages. - freeglut-devel is needed by (installed) texlive-asymptote-2012.67.2.21svn29349-4.6.1.noarch - texlive-asymptote >= 2012 is needed by (installed) texlive-collection-binextra-2012.67.svn25648-4.5.1.noarch - texlive-collection-binextra >= 2012 is needed by (installed) texlive-scheme-medium-2012.67.svn18615-4.5.1.noarch After removing those three packages, most of the other -devel packages could be deinstalled without moaning from rpm. Except for xorg-x11-proto-devel is needed by (installed) font-util-1.3.0-4.1.1.x86_64 so that I also removed font-util. I consider using http://www.tug.org/texlive/acquire-netinstall.html rather than the texlive packages from openSUSE, especially when they bring along dozens of unnecessary devel packages with their patches.
