I have an old test box with an Adaptec 1542 SCSI controller, and it locks up immediately when I load the module (modprobe aha1542). This is on SUSE 9.1. When I went to do a network install of 9.2, it froze about 90% of the way into the initial load (don't know if this is related). I realize that this controller is of mainly historical interest, but this machine has sentimental value. Anybody out there still using a 1542 with success? -- ================================================================= Glenn Holmer (Linux registered user #16682) ----------------------------------------------------------------- The one sticking point between us and the open-source community is that we actually think that compatibility matters. ----------------------------------------------------------------- -James Gosling, creator of Java =================================================================

[SNIP] Anybody out there still using a 1542 with success?
Good day Glenn, SUSE LINUX Professional 9.0 kernel 2.4.21 from the CDs, patched up to date. The answer is yes. An old SCSI harddisk and an old SCSI scanner is working as expected. Best regards Johnny :o)

Absolutely. AHA1542 and AHA1510. Not sure which SuSE version though - probably 8.2 or later. Shouldn't really depend on the SuSE version either. /Per Jessen, Zurich -- Let your spam stop here - http://www.spamchek.com

There is a known problem with end of tape detection in 8.2 versions of this module when used with scsi tape drives. -- _____________________________________ John Andersen
