Hi All,
I use SuSE 8.0 with apt and synaptic. .......................<snip lots of stuff>..................

Richard, .... I am not the original poster but have suffered the same problems after having upgraded? to 0.54. Everything worked perfectly for many months before the upgrade. ...........................<snip>.............................

Do the following to prove that the kdelibs3 package at the mirror is bad. Download kdelibs3 from ftp.gwdg.de/pub/... etc and do the same from ftp.suse.com (I know that the package is big, I'm using narrowband so I know how it is). Be sure to mark the rpms, so you know were they are coming from. Now do a md5sum on the rpms, are they the same? $ md5sum kdelibs3-suse kdelibs3-gwdg
Richard, You have been extremely helpful and cooperative to all of us on this list about apt-get. I wish to contribute so I did as you requested. Downloaded from Suse.com. The file installed perfectly and all is well. (Thanks so much Andre!) Then I downloaded from gwdg. Compared the checksums of each. They are identical.
You can continue with check the size and the sum $ ls -l kdelibs3-suse kdelibs3-gwdg $ sum -r kdelibs3-suse kdelibs3-gwdg
Did this also. It appears as they are also identical in both respects.
If they or not the same let me or the gwdg ftp admin know. If they are the same then I don't know.
BTW is the md5sum the same is displayed by the command: $ apt-cache show kdelibs3 | less
Yes it is, but remember that we are now looking at a successfully installed package from SuSE, not the one that failed. There is one thing. I am not sure what the directory is after update or kde is after that designated in the sourcelist file. 3.0.4-5 is found in RPMS.update while another version is found in RPMS.kde I don't know if the version from gwdg would have worked or not because the one from SuSE installed.
The ball is in your park now.
Don't know what to tell you Richard. But we all thank you for your help and assistance. There is something wrong with the kdelibs3 in the apt repository, but don't know what it could possibly be. Thanks again, and thanks Andre for pointing me in the right direction. Much appreciated from all. Now !!!! Do I dare do an 8.1 update ??? Bob S.
