convert can do it. It is a program in the ImageMagick suite. But why would you want to? GIF is a proprietary format! regards Anders

Because the outcome of the job I am doing is also proprietary, I sometimes need to dine out, buy presents to wife etc. etc. Unless you mean I can not use GIF pictures in any websites, and in other stuff then I will consider alternatives. If I can, why bother if it's opensource or not :-) -- Togan Muftuoglu We come to bury DOS, not to praise it. (Paul Vojta, vojta@math.berkeley.edu, paraphrasing a quote of Shakespeare)

That's my point. You can't use gif in proprietary commercial endeavours without paying royalties to Unisys (or was it compuserve). png will let you complete your commercial project and keep all the profits for yourself, or perhaps charge a little less to the client. //Anders

complete your commercial project and keep all the profits for yourself, or perhaps charge a little less to the client. why charge less I still spend the same energy. profit is a nice word

Although Unisys has changed their mind many times, I believe the license stands as follows: if you plan to, or are making a profit, from the tool / website / software / etc. that has GIFs, you have to pay up. This only refers to _encoding_ GIFs, as they didn't patent the decoding of them. http://burnallgifs.org/ is a good site you might want to check out. If you have Image Magick installed (most Linux systems do) type man convert. *************************************************** Powered by SuSE Linux 7.2 Professional KDE 2.1.2 KMail 1.2 Bryan S. Tyson bryantyson@earthlink.net ***************************************************
