I have hit the self same problem on a new 7.2 installation. Seems to me it is looking in the wrong place (permissions are fine).
Guys, please do a little bit of debugging yourselves. Have a look in /var/log/httpd/error.log and you shall see the answer to all your problems. This problem has never been announced by SuSE, neither has the fix been. Update to one of these: 22832 2001-08-03 09:58:10 src/suse/7.2/update/doc1/sdb-2001.5.15-6.noarch.rpm 22468 2001-07-24 12:02:09 src/suse/7.2/update/noarch/sdb-2001.7.24-0.noarch.rpm 22991 2001-08-13 14:26:11 src/suse/7.2/update/noarch/sdb-2001.8.13-0.noarch.rpm and your troubles shall evaporate. This must be about the third time I answer this, perhaps I should add it to my linux pages... Volker

Hold on there padre ! I am all for a little debugging, I do it for a living. However it is a little pathetic that a *help-system* on an out of the box installation, does not work ! At least for some people. If it was worrying me that much I would have found the answer. Pretty damn basic bug in a distribution I would say. Sloppy pre-release testing is the cause. And btw how pray may someone who is a complete beginner know f*ck* about httpd ? -- Regards Cliff
Yes Cliff. That's exactly my stance. A) am a beginner and am learning this stuff for the 1st time - no previous experience what so ever to reference, never done any debuggin. B) I don't understand why the help sys worked in 7.1 but failed to work properly on 7.2 - which is a better version in a lot of other ways. I would really like to see something in the middle ground of howto/man/info docs. I have noticed for a few years that most computer based literature on how one configures or operates with a specific program is either writing for the "how do I use a mouse" crowd, or "I have a masters in computer sci and have been programming for 10 years" crowd. What about those that lay somewhere in between? Just MHO, Curtis :) On Tuesday 16 October 2001 00:00, Cliff Sarginson wrote:

Hello Well, all can say is that if I was part of the QA department of the IT organisation that employs me and a system of ours went out the door with a broken help function then .. well I don't think I would be expecting any end of year bonuses (at the very least). For me personally it does not matter that much, but I make a living from being a techie. But to see Suse advertising as being the out-the-box-and-up-and-running type and to see this is incredible. In this case Suse should have emailed all registered user's with an apology and a fix. Sometimes that kind of action is required. And they should probably put help under the F1 key .. tee-hee... __ Regards Cliff On Tue, Oct 16, 2001 at 04:23:59PM -0500, Curtis Rey wrote:
