I'm quite possibly going crazy but I've noticed a strange problem with dhcpcd under 7.3. My environment consists of the following: Home: SuSE 7.1 router that is also used for serving addresses via DHCP Office: AIX machine used to serve out address via DHCP (I don't run this box so I am only assuming it is AIX based) Laptop/Client: Thinkpad 600E w/ EtherJet 10/100 (tulip_cb) and running dhcpcd. I've installed the laptop with SuSE 7.3 a few times and have had mixed success getting the mentioned Ethernet adapter to work in both Home and Office environments w/ DHCP. If I install the box at work and connect to the office network I am able to get an address. I can then go home and am also able to get an address from my home DHCP server. I can also plug in my wireless card at home and everything works great as well. However, if I install the machine at home and connect to that network first I am then unable to get an address at work. I've had this happen a couple of times now so I don't think it is anything that I'm doing different between installs. Unfortunately, I've gotten it to a point now that I am unable to consistently get IP addresses in either environment with either my EtherJet or wireless card. I am still able to get address reliably using an old pcnet_cs based card. So I guess I'm to a point that I just need suggestions on fixing a suspected bad dhcp client. Is dhclient a better choice than dhcpcd? Another issue (far less important) is that I've never been able to get my token ring adapter to work using dhcp with SuSE. I've heard that pump is needed for token ring but have not found a pump rpm for SuSE. I can always use static address for token ring but if anyone knows a fix I would like to get this working with dhcp as well. wk "If you have any trouble sounding condescending, find a Unix user to show you how it's done." -- Scott Adams
