I think you can start with apt4rpm.sf.net Richard Bos mention, and *I think* you dont/cant use Yast to update your application again, just run apt-get update, and apt-get upgrade if you want to update your system.

Apt, Red-Carpet and YOU will all co-exist just fine on a system. IMHO, YOU is best for security updates because it gives some explanation of why a program needed updating or what security fixes have been made. Apt and Red-Carpet are good for updating KDE, Gnome, whatever and also for a source of programs not provided by SUSE. They all share the same RPM database on your system so only run one at a time. Using all three can resolve and/or create dependency issues. But those issues are resolvable with a little work. Be VERY careful with apt and Red Carpet's Upgrade feature. Your system can end up a real mess unless you know what you are doing and what is being upgraded. There is also Kpackage which is great for finding out what is in an RPM and where its files are currently loaded on your system. You can click on the documentation/text/html files and it brings them right up for viewing. Stan
