Well, here's the bug. I copied all files from cds to a partition , say, /hda1, and start to install from HD with the boot disk. After all the selection is done , it begin to install, and then it shows something like " /hda1 is mounted on /mounts/extra, cound not mount /hda1...blah..." and quit. that's bug 1. Ok, i do the installation from cd, and after the files from first cd are copied, yast2 back to text mode and says my computer is not qualified for using graphic mode(... is that graphic mode during the first cd install?????????????) and keep on the installation under text mode..bug 2. the kde3_???? in /sbin/conf.d/SuSEconfig.susewm should be kde3_links ?? IF SUSE insist no beta testing for peaple to use, and doing the bug report, MAYBE SUSE should consider make their product more usable , OR just tell US that the version numbers end with 0 are ALL BETA VERSION. DO NOT BUY IT. BTW, yast2 sucks. It's SLOW, and not stable. U want change something in yast2, u need to use the "tab " fast, or just use alt+hotkeys and fool around with yast2...That is really dumb. At last, hey, suse guys, we want a USABLE and STABLE version of SUSE, not a FANCY one. I don't give a shit about your pretty splash screen or graphic lilo interface, or what u call susehelp blah...With all these bug, fancy stuff is inrelevent.
So are you running a 486 with 16 megs of RAM ? Are you a new user ? I have none of these issues and have been testing SuSE 7.3.99 (Beta 8.0) and do not have these problems. There is Beta testing for users and you should try it out rather than throw rocks. Sir, Please go to the support database on suse.com and do read your books that came with the system. The reason it said this is because the beginning of the install is in 16 color Framebuffer mode which works on any video card out on the market 99% of the time. When you got to the point that you got the error that your computer couldn't do the rest of the install in GUI mode..at this point enough of the system has been installed that it tried to start the REAL video driver for a video card and came to the conclusion that it didn't have one for your card. If your using a newer card that the db doesn't know or something to this effect.. then it will tell you this. In Shuohaun's defence, I sympathize. I was excited went out and bought 8.0 and was, subsequently, disappointed. Fancy looking but functionally ??? Maybe it will grow on me. Yast2 (graphical) installation not problem but I prefer yast1 for manually managing updates. I'm not particularly fond of Yast2's text mode. I would love to know what other people think about 8.0. No. I an't a "NEW" user, I've been using SuSE since 6.0, So, such a NAIVE situation as u mentioned , say, 16 meg-ram?? come on, u have not read my question carefully. I STARTED to install SuSE under GRAPHIC mode at first phase, until the second phase, yast claims that my System is not QUALIFIED for yast to run in GRAPHIC mode. BTW, the suse 7.3 ftp version /desrc file corrupted and cause people just can't install from ftp, I'am the first one who brought this issue to this list, and fixed by ,marc ?? right away, and where are the "BETA TESTER" than????? BETA TESTER does test the SF for serveral different situation, on different platforms, not only for people who install the sf and , well, it goes well, and they claim the sf is infallible. So, hey , u're lucky not to face ANY flaws, but for people who spent money buying these product and reported the bugs , well, what do u think? CONSTRUCTIVE criticism? Ok, Yast2 SUCKS, give me back yast than.

------------------ I think we should give shuohuan chang the benefit of the doubt. His native language does not seem to be English. It is sometimes easy for foreigners to adapt strange and wrong ways of expression (such as 'u' or 'i'). After all it has now become a habit in England to violate the language. Instead of 'for' people write '4', instead of yes you hear 'yeah' (even so written on subtitles on TV). Instead of 'cafe' they say 'caf'. The command of the English language is unfortunately very poor among the English population contrary to countries like France. I met 'A' level student who could not even analyze a sentence as to its syntax or define a verbal expression. Not much time ago 'Charles' regretted the high degree of illiteracy. So what do you expect from foreigners, who have been subjected to this sort of language? Maybe he watches things like 'Coronation Street' or 'Eastenders'? It was a bit arrogant, I agree, (or was he just angry?) but this may not be with intent, just poorly expressed sentences. Many people just not have the feeling for what they say or write when trying to explain something in a non-native language. hwm

Hm. Countries like France has a good command of the English language? (Sorry, couldn't resist)

I agree, but if you are writing in a language which isn't your native tongue, there is all the more reason to be careful how you phrase your sentences. If you're not sure you can handle complex sentences, keep it simple. "You are men?" "You what?" "You are men with orally?" "You watch it!" Anders

Sorry, misunderstanding, and not very clear (my fault): I referred to French, of course.

yes, that rule (short sentences) also applies to writing in one's native language (and to me).

I have just installed Suse 8.0 today and I have had 0 problems. CONSTRUCTIVE criticis is the only way to go though. What do you get back from FLAMING like you are doing now? If you calm down you can get some help. If you only shout people cant, because it is very hard to see the right information between flaming and swearing. Praise
It seems that every release of SuSE is replete with numerous issues on installs. Oh wait...that's why I moved to Linux because MS ate my hardware and cost me some $$$ trying to do installs! Now, as SuSE re-packages what many generous code hackers have put together and yes, even at some users requests, the job is tedious and the history says SuSE has done a very good job given the odds. Now specific issues are directed to the URL : http://www.suse.com/us/support/inst_support/index.html After the following the directions on the URL, most issues seem to end up on this list and hashed out. Sometimes even, it's operator error :-( Or hardware, or both, or rarely ...but it does occur, it's software. So as I have run Linux since the first Red Hat CD ever released, and SuSE since 5.0, (I hate boasting!), experience tells me that *every* release, from *every* distro has some issues. Oh yea ... that's right, humans put it together. Well, kinda sounds like this person is a little dissatisfied, huh? ;o) My first guess is it doesn't quite know how to install software, but I could be wrong! Must have forgotten to read the install manual or was it trying to install to the same partition that it copied the files too? Maybe a C64 would work for your computing needs right now? ;o) Patrick -- ---KMail 1.3.2--- SuSE Linux v7.3 Pro--- Registered Linux User #225206 Magic Page Products -- Amiga-SuSE-PC Sales & Service URL: http://home.sprintmail.com/~tracerb
