Hi! I keep seeing these messages about IDE speed set to 33mhz and to change that I should use "ide=xxx" I suppose that will set the speed. My question is like I cannot find this in any docs. Where does this go and what do I need to do? Thanks!! In /etc/lilo.conf append="ide=66" HOWEVER, this does very little to speed up your harddrive. There are long threads on USENET about this. Just ignore the message. From what I gather, this only sets speeds for PIO modes, which is seldom used. Search http://groups.google.com and enter "idebus=66" and you will read all the details. On older machines, you might do some damage to the ide bus. FWIW I have this set to 66 on my machine, just to see from first hand experience what glitches it might cause. It hasn't caused me a problem yet.
