Weird wireless problem with dual boot system
I have a Dell Inspiron 9400 (Core 2 Duo) with an Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG card. It is a dual boot system with SuSE 10.1 (32 bit) and Windows XP. The wireless works well in both Linux and Windows, but when I've been in Windows and re-boot to Linux, the wireless connects and gives me an IP address, but nothing will route out of the laptop. This is a recurring problem, not a one-time glitch, with both ifup/ifdown and KNetworkManager. ifconfig shows a valid IP address, and route shows correct networking and gateway. The only workaround I have found is to use YaST to switch from KNetworkManager to the standard ifup/ifdown system, reboot, then switch back to KNetworkManager and reboot a second time. This consistently restores my connectivity. I had thought perhaps the card's microcode needed to be reloaded, but according to the Intel site, each OS puts its own microcode in a different place. I am hoping someone on the list can give me a better way to solve my problem. Thanks in advance, Buddy Coffey Advanced Electromagnetics

Seems the firmware in Suse goes in /lib/firmware/ipw3945.ucode There are some very recent changes to the docs (Nov 1 2006) located here: http://ipw3945.sourceforge.net/INSTALL It could be that since everything is in place for SuSE 10.1all you need is to go get the latest firmware wget http://bughost.org/ipw3945/ucode/ipw3945-ucode-1.13.tgz . <---- period tar xzvf ipw3945-ucode-1.13.tgz cp ipw3945-ucode-1.13/ipw3945.ucode /lib/firmware/ipw3945.ucode -- _____________________________________ John Andersen
