I have a Cisco 675 router that is connect to /dev/ttyS1 (COM2 in Windows). I set up a symbolic link (ln -s /dev/ttyS1 /dev/modem) so that minicom would work. How do I get it to talk directly to the router rather than having it try to dial a modem? When using Hyperterminal in Windows, I tell it to connect directly to COM2 and it works beautifully. I know Linux can do better, but how? Also, is there an X or KDE program that is similar to Hyperterminal so that I don't have to go out to an Xterm? I'm currently running SuSE 6.3. Thanks! I know Linux can do better, but how? Run minicom and configure it for the device by pressing <ALT>-O and modifying the settings. Once you have all settings modified, save seetings as something other then default. To call these settings in the future, issue 'minicom <settings>' at a prompt. mm> Also, is there an X or KDE program that is similar to Hyperterminal so that mm> I don't have to go out to an Xterm? You can always create a shortcut on the desktop that does this by simply making the execute line the following. rxvt -bg black -fg white -e minicom <settings> & mm> I'm currently running SuSE 6.3. mm> Thanks! mm> Mark Myers mm> in warm Phoenix, AZ mm> mm> mm> -- S.Toms - tomas@primenet.com - homepage is in the works SuSE Linux v6.2+ - Kernel 2.2.13 You may be recognized soon.
