Re: [SLE] 7.3 from FTP error: PkgRetriever.cc LINE:622
okay, thanks. es Now the funny thing is this - when I do an ftp setup, from the same site i downloaded the images from (sunsite - switzerland), the setup runs fine. I re-downloaded the relevant parts of the tree a few times now (7.3/suse/setup/*, 7.3/discs, etc) but no luck. does anybody have a clue what this is about? manual setup fails, setup from cli fails, setup in amanner of strange postions also fails. setup after a sacrificial offer of a live virgin chicken combined with some very deep Voodoo _also_ fails...... thanks Martijn (james doesn't have a sense of humour - thant's how you can tell apart....)

Hi all,
downloaded SuSE 7.3 from FTP, and attempted to install on an HP LC 2000 Netserver, 256 MB RAM, HP Netraid SCSI (AMI Megaraid).
setup gives me the following error when about to select packages:
ERROR: Unkown Error!, Detail:0 FILE PkgRetriever.cc LINE:622 [...] meantime wanted to check if anybody else has similar trouble.
This machine used to run 7.2 before, and the hardware is okay.
Yes, I've got:
"Err " unknow Erro! DETAL: File PckRetriver.cc LINE 619" or inst_execute_yast: 921 command_ti="/inst_ing/sbin/inst_setup/yast1 yast1 returns code is 256 ( errono=2)

Spare the chicken and try this..:) Had similar problems on the weekend from SuSE ftp site in States. (me thinks it was simply getting hammered and the install discs got corrupted durring the download) My solution was to get an new disc set from the gatech mirror and point the install too IP: 130.207.108.135 /pub/linux/distributions/suse/suse/i386/7.3 Some voodo paganism chants, a beer (or two, burp, or three) and some ciggies and presto no more error messages. Must be the beer..:) Best and good luck Chris H>
hehe - okay, i'll lay off the chickens ;-) But this is
exactly what frwaks me out: we downloaded the _full_
mirror, and it doesn;t work. when we point to
_the_same_mirror_ and do an FTP setup, it works fine.
others have reported the same today, so i'd be
inclined to call this a bug.
So far, I am zooming in on either something with the
/suse/images/root RD image file, or a bug in yast
itself, or possibly the files in suse/setup/descr/ -
but i got those several times. Now, started out with a
harddisk-based install, but that didn't work (not
related to this issue though - the .S.u.S.E-blah file
was not present, it turned out later), then moved the
lot to another machine, and did an NFS-based install.
This is where things got weird.
Tomorrow we are going to set up an ftp server on the
same files, and try an ftp install (You reading this,
James?) - it might be due to NFS. who knows? will keep
y'all informed though.

Anyone have any idea why my printing system would start making multiple copies of a print request? I am using 7.1 and printing to an HP LJ IIP. This is a new problem. I just printed golfer.ps with lpr .../golfer.ps and got unending perfect copies rather than just one. Any help would be appreciated. I have been in Linix since late '94 and this is the first time I have seen this. Scott
