[SLE] libjpeg error and SuSE support
Hi everyone. Having failed to get libjpeg.so.62 working I wrote to SeSE support asking them what to do when 'startx enlightenment' did not work after a 6.2 to 6.3 upgrade. Here is then reply Type in the command rpm -e libjpeg That uninstalls it. Then you can install our version with YaST. the rpm -e will not let me do it due to dependencies so I reistalled it using Yast. Still doesn't work. Does the rpm -e do something different to reinstalling from Yast? It might do. I think if you also pass rpm the --nodeps option, it will force the uninstallation, and then you can reinstall with YaST. I had the same problem while trying a pgm called Xmovies (GPL & plays DVDs, etc - see OpenSound site) It required libjpeg.so.62 so I downloaded and installed the RH version, using Kpackage from root, because SuSE didn't have it on their installation. When I logged in as a user and tried to fire KDE it wouldn't load. So I tried to load libjpeg from SuSE on top of it and it would work. I had to unload libjpeg (which broke links to the .so.62 library) so I could then reload it so KDE would run. Kpackage is a great tool! Xmovies is supposed to give full screen DVD with stereo sound. If only SuSE would add libjpeg.so.62 to their installation so Xmovies would run... JLK

Well, for the moment you could do something different. put the library into
its own directory, f.i. /usr/local/lib/libjpeg, rename xmovies and put a
script in its place that simply does
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib/libjpeg
exec xmovies
For the time being, this should do the trick.
