[SLE] Firefox on 10.1 is segfaulting on me....
Anyone else having (or had) any issues with Firefox not working on SUSE10.1? If I launch firefox via the command line I get this back.... ------------ /usr/bin/firefox: line 159: 4324 Segmentation fault $AOSS $MOZ_PROGRAM $@ ----------- I've tried various things like deleting the .mozilla directory, removing firefox completely and deleting the .mozilla directory, reinstalling firefox from the DVD etc etc etc... nothing works... I just get segfaults. I've downloaded Firefix from Mozilla.com and unpacked it... and get a segfault from that too... ---------- ./run-mozilla.sh: line 131: 4593 Segmentation fault "$prog" ${1+"$@"} ---------- Not really sure how to go about figuring out why, or what the problem is here. Maybe an old config file laying around? Any suggestions? I was getting that, and traced it down (finally) to having installed the "Thin Keramik" KDE theme. Strange as it sounds, nothing I did fixed it (including blowing away my ~.mozilla tree) until I changed the window decorations to Keramik from ThinKeramik. This might not be the EXACT issue you have, but I share the story with you to get you to check for stuff you might not normally expect. I found it by looking at ~/.xsession-errors and using strace. Actually... that worked. That was the EXACT issue I was having. Changed over to Keramik... and whiz bang Firefox works. So... I guess next question is... is this officially a bug? In SUSE? In KDE? I've tried Googling on that particular SegFault and got nothing... Whoa! Cool! I actually didn't think that was going to be the exact cause for you. Great!

I don't know. It's so minor and the difference between Thin Keramik and Keramik is so small that I didn't care to file a bug or investigate further. Glad that fixed it for you. Michael -- San Francisco, CA

When in doubt - bugzilla it, please :) Every little bit helps and makes for a better distribution. Let the SUSE engineers decide what to fix, who has to fix it, etc. IMNSHO this is one of those annoyances that really needs to be cleared up. Well, after my experience with https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=147966 ...I'm not inclined to waste my time on it. Thin Keramik and Firefox are both third party apps, I doubt SuSE would do anything different than they did on 147966. Michael -- San Francisco, CA

Only difference is that Firefox, Keramik and ThinKeramik are all open source so there is a better chance to fix it. So if you and Clayton tell me your SUSE Linux versions (10.1 for both I'd guess) and KDE versions and Firefox versions and Keramik and ThinKeramik versions, I'll open the bugzilla and see where it goes. I think there's enough info in the emails to duplicate the issue. thinkeramik-3.2.1-1suse91.i686.rpm (Yes, I know it's old, but that's what was installed). All the other stuff was whatever comes stock with SuSE 10.1. Michael PS: Oh, and my 10.1 was an upgrade from a 10.0 system that had previously been installed on bare metal. -- San Francisco, CA

Thank you Steve. I very much appreciate the way you monitor these email lists for KDE related activity, issues, bugs, troubles, etc. And the help you provide as needed with KDE and SUSE Linux.
