Suse9.2 does not support updation of jar file
Hi all, I want to update a file in the existing jar file. I m using the following command for that on Suse 9.2: jar uf test.jar dira/abc.txt The response is: jar: '-u' mode unimplemented. Now i want to know there is some problem in my usage or the update for jar file is not yet supported. Regards Manoj Kumar

Hi Manoj, ~#:info jar
u Updates an existing JAR file by adding files or changing the mani‐ fest. For example: example% jar uf foo.jar foo.class adds the file foo.class to the existing JAR file foo.jar, and example% jar umf foo.jar updates foo.jar's manifest with the information in manifest. v Generates verbose output on stderr.
Try adding the "v" switch to see if you can get more information about the error. What java version are you on? regards, - Carl

I think he knows what it does and he is using it correctly.

My Sun 1.4.2 release gives the same error. I think it really is unimplemented in some versions. The 1.5 version seems to support it as documented.

Hi Randall, Manoj only implied the version of Java in question (it certainly isn't "Suse9.2" Java) so that's the direction I was heading with my reply. Of course, I've seen wonky installations lead to that kind of confounding inconsistency, too, so it's a reasonable question nonetheless. Thank you for the definitive answer. I _really_ enjoy those! regards, - Carl
