Now just for curiosity, how can I see those headers?
Read the manual for your mail client.
I've tried to point out the insanity of this "read the headers to unsubscribe" thing before, but got nowhere. This comment tempts me to try again.
Chris, you are now telling people that in order to get off this list, they have to read the manual to their email client, and learn about headers and how to get to see them?
Do people want to do that? Do they have the time?
Why is it so hard to change the tagline which so confuses newbies and the email-uninitiated to:
To unsubscribe see http://www.suse.com/us/business/mailinglists.html
Christopher M, I agree with Derek !!! Most of the "Yahoo / Netscape" crowd" (of which I am one). don't even have a manual for their mail client, and we wouldn't know a header if it bit us --- And when one of that group joins "suse-linux-e" and their mail box fills up with 200+ posts a day and they are already over quota -- all they want is off. Make it easy for them, please. Friendly greetings, Gar __________________________________________________________________ McAfee VirusScan Online from the Netscape Network. Then email LISTNAME-owner@suse.com (which is usually me) or postmaster@suse.com (which is me) and ask for help. This is all explained in the information that came in the welcome message you received when you subscribed (and were asked to keep for reference).
Make it easy for them, please.
I really don't think it can any easier than it is. The only additional thing I can do other than hold your hand while you send the mail is to put what's in the list-unsubscribe header in the trailer of the message. As I already, this will cause people to inadvertantly reveal their real address by not quoting properly. People, I've put a lot of time and thought into pretty much aspect of how our public lists work. Much of this is discussed in the FAQ. For everything else contact me off the list if you'd like to discuss it. -- -ckm
