[opensuse] Can't see Samba shares...
I can't figure out what's wrong with my config, I can see the share \\beata\anders, but not store0 or store1; # smb.conf is the main Samba configuration file. You find a full commented # version at /usr/share/doc/packages/samba/examples/smb.conf.SUSE if the # samba-doc package is installed. # Date: 2011-03-01 [global] workgroup = NORRBRING passdb backend = tdbsam # printing = cups # printcap name = cups # printcap cache time = 750 # cups options = raw map to guest = Bad User include = /etc/samba/dhcp.conf # logon path = \\%L\profiles\.msprofile # logon home = \\%L\%U\.9xprofile # logon drive = P: usershare allow guests = No # add machine script = /usr/sbin/useradd -c Machine -d /var/lib/nobody -s /bin/false %m$ domain logons = No domain master = No security = user wide links = Yes wins server = 192.168.111.10 wins support = Yes [store0] comment = store0 create mask = 644 force group = users force user = anders guest ok = No inherit acls = Yes path = /store0 follow symlinks = Yes read only = No valid users = anders writeable = Yes [store1] comment = store1 create mask = 644 force group = users force user = anders guest ok = No inherit acls = Yes path = /store1 follow symlinks = Yes read only = No valid users = anders writeable = Yes User anders is added with smbpasswd. Can you please give a little more detail about the setup? From where don't you see the shares? Am I correct in assuming that you mean you can't see them from a windows PC that is trying to connect to your SuSE PC running Samba?
# smb.conf is the main Samba configuration file. You find a full commented # version at /usr/share/doc/packages/samba/examples/smb.conf.SUSE if the # samba-doc package is installed. Unfortunately I am experiencing something similar. My SuSE server hard drive died. I was running 11.1 for some time. I installed 11.4 on the new drive and did all the updates. I thought I had a backup of the smb.conf but I can't find it. After two years of not having to mess with it, I don't remember much. I seem to have gotten Samba running and the PC makes the connection to my share but when I click on that mapped drive in Windows explorer, I get an error message about that drive not being accessible. Is that what you get?

What does "can't see" in this context mean? Have you tried smbclient or an application which uses the smbclient library (KDE, Gnome, <insert your appplication here>)? Is AppArmor enabled and or is the finally available AppArmor fix/ update installed for openSUSE 11.4 (well, you've missed to state which product you're using -5 points ;)). Try to make your store* shares as simple as possible to identify if the create mask, force*, or inherit acls settings are causing your issue. Did this work one week back and started to fail after you applied the recent two security fixes[1]? If all this doeen't help please follow the section titled "Samba bug reporting and advanced debugging information" at http://en.openSUSE.org/Samba And yes, it works for me. With the stock Samba of openSUSE 11.4, SLE 10, 11, and those packages as available from the Open Build Service at http://download.openSUSE.org/repositories/network:/samba:/STABLE/ Lars [1] http://www.samba.org/samba/security/CVE-2011-2522 http://www.samba.org/samba/security/CVE-2011-2694 -- Lars Müller [ˈlaː(r)z ˈmʏlɐ] Samba Team SUSE Linux, Maxfeldstraße 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany

What does "can't see" in this context mean? Now I am beginning to think that we are having the same problem. I have been working on it again this evening and after looking at the links you provided and some other info, I still haven't got it to work. I discovered that I could connect to a share I called data \\192.168.15.100\data from a Windows XP PC but

Since I just checked for updates in Yast earlier this evening and there were no updates offered, does this mean that this fix you mention is not yet offered by normal Yast update?
Did this work one week back and started to fail after you applied the recent two security fixes[1]? I can't go that far back since I just installed SuSE 11.4 two days ago.

go in Yast --> Novell AppArmour --> Update Profile Wizard. Then approve everything for Samba. You can also manually edit the Samba profile to allow it into whatever directories you are sharing. -- Michael S. Of course, make sure to turn AppArmour back on first. -- Michael S. Dunsavage -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
