KDE 3.1 upgrade gone wrong; SuSE 8.1. Loggin screen problems(?)
Hi! I have done something stupid, in frustration at trying to upgrade to KDE 3.1 i deleted my /opt/kde3 dir's. Why? Well, I tried the following: 1. 'rpm -Fvh --nodeps *.rpm' and then 'rpm -Uvh --nodeps *.rpm'. But I always ended up with warious dependencies prblems. So in a spat of delirious frustration I did this stupid thing. Now the result: when I start the PC get the old (original 8.1) login screen. And I onle get the choice between an 'default' and 'failsafe' loggin. When I chose default I then get a blue background screen with a lone x-term window. I can then enter 'kde' here and kde3.1 starts up! How to rectify this situation? (If I try to start d.e windowmaker or another windowmanager I get an error and ends up back at the original 8.1 login screen. regards larsf -- ----------------------------------------------- Lars Forseth Nord-Trøndelag Fylkeskommune http://folk.uio.no/forseth ------------------------------------------------

Oups! forgot that after deleting /opt/kde3/* i Installed the rpm's (from SuSE for kde 3.1).
How to rectify this situation? (If I try to start d.e windowmaker or another windowmanager I get an error and ends up back at the original 8.1 login screen.

What error? To get kde on the login screen, go to the login manager setup in the control center and add "kde" as a session
