I just notice that kde (the 10.0 one) uses defaults folder directly at the user root (~), for example ~/.local and ~/.thumbnails I find this specially odd because nobody knows from where these folders come from and this can make collision with others software. it makes it difficult to use alternate partitions. all the kde stuff should be in .kde, as usual. (and on my disk .thumbnail do 640Mo :-() is this feature normal, a carefully studied choice or what? thanks jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos

They are standardized directories for desktop interoperability. Bye, Steve

I think the OP wanted to say: why not use .kde This is, I think, not an issue with KDE or Gnome, but with programs running it. If each program would make their own .thumbnail directory, it would be taking much more space. houghi -- Nutze die zeit. Whatever supports it...
why are they not grouped in and .interop..?
That would have no technical advantage. Bye, Steve

??? making a mess with my home is really not an advantage. any application use to have clearly stated folders, so I can delete them if the app is no more used. here it's anonymous (.local for the trashcan!) jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos

How do you know that .local contains trashcan if it's anonymous?
two hours work... and for .thumbnail a post to the digilam mailing list and these folders can be very hudge, so this is not trivial (and by the way, I hate trashcan :-) jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos

well. I don't want to become too much of list topics. I only note that it's not a SUSE Linux pecularity but a much general one so we have better discuss this elsewhere thanks jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos
