Can I use Reiser FS for /boot partition?
Hello SuSE folks, With the new SuSE 7.1 distro and 2.4.0 kernel is it possible to use Reiser FS on /boot partition instead of ext2? What it takes in terms of configuration to use Reiser FS for /boot? Thanks in advance. Alex -- MS Windows users should be covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

I know that it is certainly possible to boot off a ReiserFS /boot partition, but as to whether SuSE 7.1 supports this out of the box, I'm not sure. You'll need the latest version of LILO, and make sure that ReiserFS is compiled into your kerenl (it should be possible to do this with initrd, but it's not advisable). See http://sdb.suse.de/sdb/en/html/ashley_lilo-reiserfs.html. In the past you just need to mount /boot with the notail option. Don't know if that still applies to 7.1. Greg

you can in 7.1. but it only makes sense if you don't have an extra /boot partition, because otherwise it's too small for reiserfs. the 1024 cyl. limit is gone as well.
