[opensuse] 13.1 FF38 - Why all the new "Secure Connection Failed" screens?
All, I don't know if this is flash-player related (doubt it) or some other 'feature' in FF38, but not FF is flashing up screens of: <quote> Secure Connection Failed An error occurred during a connection to startpage.com. Peer's certificate has an invalid signature. (Error code: sec_error_bad_signature) The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified. Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem. [Try Again?] Report this error </quote> Really? It is 'startpage.com' I used it all morning, now sec_error_bad_signature? I also get this page for all other wordpress sites. WTF? -- David C. This works from here using FF 38.0.1 in openSUSE 13.2. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

It works fine here, but you might be getting a different startpage.com than we do. Does curl https://startpage.com/ return the page or also a certificate error? Ciao, Marcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks all, I still don't know what exactly caused the https:// failures, but whatever the cause, I installed the flash-player update (which recommended a 'what' "Reboot" -- so I did. Startpage was working fine thereafter. Some bit got flipped/stuck somewhere and it is no longer stuck... Take comfort in the exacting reliability of software.... -- David C. Secure Connection Failed
I think it based in the progressive disabling of 'ssl3'. Since there are multiple SSL3's if some patch your browser ate turned off all the SSL3 proto's that the site offered, it might have tried to fall back to TLS which the other website may not have on. I count over 40 ssl3 protos and not all of mine are 'off' yet in my browser as I couldn't read some sites. (Of course this is compounded by google's genius advice that everyone should turn on HTTPS, and refuse HTTP connections. Msg I got on 1 website: Secure Connection Failed An error occurred during a connection to blah.blah. Cannot communicate securely with peer: no common encryption algorithm(s). (Error code: ssl_error_no_cypher _overlap) The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified. Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem. The key proto I needed to enable for that site was: security.ssl3.dhe_rsa_aes_128_sha Oh what interesting times we live in.... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Hi All, I'm now getting this message every once in awhile when connecting to my bank's website; others also, but sparsely; not all that frequently or predictably. When it occurs, it is always at the very first connection attempt after an extended delay probably measured at least in dozens of hours or at every new desktop session. (The point being that it's always an entirely fresh session from the https server's perspective.) After the error message appears, the very next connection attempt succeeds if I click the offered 'try again' link, or if I refresh the page, or if I close the failed connection tab and open a new one and try again. regards, Carl -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
