You don't need to, but it may be advisable. The cleanest method is to back up anything you want to keep and then do a wipe and fresh install. It is possible to do an upgrade over the top of 10.0 but, even though it should be fine, there is the possibility of some unexpected problems. Even if it does go well, you're likely to end up with some files left over from the previous install that are unused and just take up space. How I would do things depends on whether I'd previously done an upgrade rather than fresh install. If I was upgrading a fresh install, I'd do a back up first and then try the upgrade. If everything works out find, all well and good. On the other hand, if the system ends up being broken, you've got the backup and do a fresh install. If I had already upgraded previously without a fresh install, I'd back up /etc and a few other places and then do a fresh install, reformatting the partitions to ensure a clean install. Then I'd go through and reconfigure everything to match my previous settings. Maybe it's better, but I'm currenty running SUSE 10.1 upgraded from 10.0 upgraded from 9.3 (maybe even from 9.2, I don't remember). Furthermore I always installed all the bleeding-edge software between official releases. The nastier bug I found was the upgrade from 9.3 to 10.0 didn't created initrd because it didn't installed udev (it happened on two system I'm maintaining), so I had an unbootable system but I was able to fix using only the recovery mode of the install DVD (I always have a knoppix CD but I didn't used it). * Entra in www.radiosnj.com Clicca qui: http://adv.email.it/cgi-bin/foclick.cgi?mid=5180&d=14-6 --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-help@opensuse.org
