[opensuse] No window manager installed, please install one
A problem I had from beta-times of SuSE-11: when I start the program it doesn't give the normal KDE-display, but displays a mini-console with the message "Error cannot find a window manager installed, please install one. Exit for now" I subsequently start a window manager with the command "startkde", and then the program starts properly. Below typescript with the top of the lines in the "startkde"-console: startkde: Starting up... kded(3576)/kdecore (KLocale) KLocalePrivate::initEncoding: Defaulting to ISO 8859- 1 encoding. kbuildsycoca4(3577)/kdecore (KLocale) KLocalePrivate::initEncoding: Defaulting to ISO 8859-1 encoding. kbuildsycoca4 running... kcminit(3580)/kdecore (KLocale) KLocalePrivate::initEncoding: Defaulting to ISO 88 59-1 encoding. ksmserver(3583)/kdecore (KLocale) KLocalePrivate::initEncoding: Defaulting to ISO 8859-1 encoding. kwin(3585)/kdecore (KLocale) KLocalePrivate::initEncoding: Defaulting to ISO 8859- 1 encoding. kwin(3585): ""restore1" - conversion of "0,0,0,0" to QRect failed" kwin(3585): ""fsrestore1" - conversion of "0,0,0,0" to QRect failed" kwin(3585): ""fsrestore2" - conversion of "0,0,0,0" to QRect failed" And many more lines . . . Could any one please suggest how to get the windowmanager start properly (without my inervention)? I posted the error written below, and did not get a hint from the list. I went on searching, and came across a hint to check .xsession-errors . I did have one indeed (different from a friend of mine that did not have one at all.) Mine started with Warning: Type "ONE_LEVEL" has 1 levels, but <RALT> has 2 symbols Ignoring extra symbols Warning: No symbols defined for <SYRQ> (keycode 92) Warning: No symbols defined for <II5D> (keycode 93) (and over 100 similar lines (No symbols defined for ... ) after these first three.
