[S.u.S.E. Linux] X11R6.4 ... costs?
I don't know if it's a April Fools joke or not... but I'd like to find out. I heard a rumor that OpenSource took over X from the X Consortium and that it's going to be $5K..... Bummer man! I took a look at the Open Group site. It looks like they are charging for business who make $ with the technology, but if someone wants to use it non-commercially, then they need to fill out a non-commercial liscense to download it. :( mark -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

And here's the relevant paragraph from the Opengroup's announcement letter on X11R6.4. Note both the first and second sentence: With the release of X11R6.4 there will be a commercial use licensing fee associated with the X Window System technology. This new licensing structure will continue to provide the research, application development and hobbiest communities with the same value it always has without a fee. And, it will help assure the continued evolution of the X Window System program with the support of those companies who build their businesses from this technology.
