Asynchronous smart/chipcard reader & software
Hi all, I found an "old" (I guess) chipcard reader/writer with Towitoko technology inside. It's recognized on my SuSE 9.0 like this: hwinfo --chipcard 15: Serial 00.0: 10e00 Serial Mouse [Created at mouse.461] Unique ID: Fyby.V2LuMNAvAW0 Parent ID: S_Uw.3fyvFV+mbWD Hardware Class: chipcard Model: "Towitoko Smartcard reader" Vendor: TWK "Towitoko" Device: eisa 0x5542 "Smartcard reader" Device File: /dev/ttyS0 Requires: pcsc-towitoko Config Status: cfg=new, avail=yes, need=no, active=unknown Attached to: #10 (Serial controller) I have installed some packages from the SuSE 9.0 CDs and also a program called "SmartCard" (http://home.kcore.de/~kianga/smartcard). With SmartCard I can read some chipchards but some others seem to be "asynchronous" and thus cannot be read... The question is: could you point me to any program to read/write such cards? ?? try minicom. It will read/write to a serial port. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos

Yep, but I don't know how to interact with the card reader/writer... :( and that's what I'm looking for... Martin

Guess I do not understand. I thought you wanted to read/write to the card. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos

Yes, I want to read/write the card but also need to pass some information properly, otherwise the card could'nt be used at all... On Windoze I've seen programs that read the card, present the information on screen (hex and ASCII, for example), allow you to modify whatever you need to and then write back to the card... that's what I look for, either a GUI or CLI... Guess I still do not understand, reading and writing *are* passing information. minicom will do this.

did you try minicom (minicom - friendly serial communication program)? it will communicate with a serial device, get and put files to the device, ie: read and write, communicate/interface with. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos
