If by "doesn't connect" means that the modem never returns a "CONNECT" string, then I would check the modem's switches or setup (initialization string). Your modem is probably setup in a non-standard way.

Ok, the modem waits for a "CONNECT" and never comes, but what could it
expect?
My modem is a Diamond Supraexpress 33.6i V+ Intl.

In my experience, modems can be difficult. It is usually some seemingly trivial setting. If you are trying to connect to an ISP, then I would contact their help desk; they are probably experienced at setup; they probably have a standard modem setup sheet. If your modem is external, you may be able to fix the problem be setting the proper switches. If the modem is internal, you may need to find the proper setup string (eg. ATxxxxxxxxxx) to send to the modem before trying to connect. It could be something as simple as a flow control setup. Sorry I can't be more specific. I am assumming that you don't have a winmodem as you can communicate with it somewhat by getting it to dial. Adrián Montero wrote:

You'll be glad to know that this isn't a WinModem. Have you tried wvdial yet? I found wvdial a lot easier to use than kppp. It can be set up quite easily by running wvdialconf. Try it and see if it works.

Hello, if you want good help, then you need to give every setting in kppp possible so that you situation can be better analyzed. Can you connect with wvdial? George Sun, 09 Apr 2000, ÷Ù ÎÁÐÉÓÁÌÉ:
