[opensuse] Appearance of a new icon on my main panel
I have just noticed a new icon on my main panel. It looks like a globe of the Earth. When I click on it, it tells me only "new server", and asks which directory I want to share, and the address of the lucky server. The default address is the name of this computer on my LAN, so the arrival of the icon doesn't seem to be the result of foul play. On the other hand, I can't see any use for this thing, which calls itself "kpf". None of the usual repositories seem to know anything about kpf. How do I go about removing it from my machine? If that is impossible or undesirable, how to I go about removing the icon, which is taking up space on the panel? -- Stan Goodman Qiryat Tiv'on Israel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

kpf is the kde personal fileserver. How it got onto your panel I couldn't say, normally you have to manually right-click on the panel and add it, but it's certainly not something unofficial or nefarious. It is simply a quick way for a user to share files without having to install and configure nfs or samba or ftp. This I think would qualify as "a use". You should be able to simply right-click on it and select "remove from panel" Anders -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

That's what I thought too, but it doesn't happen. Clicking with MB1 or MB2 is all the same; both bring up a very small window labeled "New server", and clicking on that (again, with either button) brings up the configuration dialog. -- Stan Goodman Qiryat Tiv'on Israel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Wait, you're running kde3, aren't you. In KDE3, the applet config isn't the icon itself, it's the border right next to the icon. Immediately next to the icon you will find a small arrow, which you can click. That will give you the option to remove the applet Anders -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I am indeed.
