Hi all, I have a few questions. I am on 9.1 Pro. 1. How can I check if my firewall is running or not? 2. I have a machine at my friend's place running on Windoze. I want to transfer some files from that machine (on a dynamic IP) to mine. Even though I modified the hosts.allow and the hosts.deny files to allow access to all machines (i.e. I put the lines ALL:ALL in the allow file and commented the ALL:ALL lines in the deny file) winscp doesn't connect to my machine. Should I be doing something else to make it to work? Regards, Chaitanya. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Hi, you do not need more than port 22 (ssh) open on your box in order to use winscp. But most probably it is misconfigured. 9.1 default setup runs ssh protocol v. 2. So, go in the SSH options of winscp and set it to 2, or "only 2" to see if it works. To check if the port is open, etc, you may use putty to establish a ssh session from the windows box. Cheers Sunny

As root, the command iptables -nL will list the rules that are in place. - Richard -- Richard Kimber http://www.psr.keele.ac.uk/

Go to www.grc.com to port scan your computer.
