RE: Re[2]: [SLE] Old versions of Linux distribution
I have Kylix running on SuSE 10.0. In addition to the LD_ASSUME_KERNEL variable, I had to set LANG="en_US". I have to install and use Kylix 2, but it isn't working on Suse 9.2
or 10.0. I would like to install "certified" distribution of Linux,
which are recommended by Borland.
* Red Hat 7.1 * SuSE 7.2 * Mandrake 8.0
Where can I find these distributions for download?
Thanks a lot.

KS> http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-linux-e/2004-Jun/0727.html Thanks for your reply, but I know about this variable, but I got this result. See attachment. -- Best regards, TRoland http://www.rotursoft.sk http://exekutor.rotursoft.sk

Which version? The OP specifically wants to use ver. 2. Please DO NOT top post. Most people on this list don't like reading books backwards. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998

Could you describe, what else you did for get Kylix working on Suse 10. I was testing Suse 10.0 and Kylix 3 Pro immediately when Suse 10 was released, but there was one big problem. I was not able to debug application, because Kylix 3 always hanged. I have written to Borland for help and I got this answer: CD> Dear Mr. Turcan, CD> CD> I can only repeat: You are using an unsupported Linux Version and CD> we cannot provide a solution for this. We had to switch to Suse 9.2 where with LD_ASSUME_KERNEL is working. But my first question in this thread was, where can I download older certified linux distros. Have you got any experience about Kylix 2 on newer linuxes? By the way, my friend has downloaded for me RedHat 7.1 from one Czech university and Kylix 2 is working without any trouble. -- Best regards, TRoland http://www.rotursoft.sk http://exekutor.rotursoft.sk

This is daft.

Certified by whom? They are telling you to use old linux versions, that are in fact not maintained, and thus, not certified! Absurd. Ok, and which version do they certify for SuSE, the old faithful 7.3? You can not seriously consider installing that. You create a program for 7.3, and whom are you going to sell that to? 7.3 is long outdated - it has been without maintenance since Dec 2003, not less! I could not sell my program to anybody and be honest about it. :-/ I couldn't even consider programing with Kylix if Borland doesn't get serious and start supporting current Linux versions and get committed - much as I liked Delphi time ago. Pity :-( - -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.0 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Made with pgp4pine 1.76 iD8DBQFDuHAHtTMYHG2NR9URApjZAJ4/UWGZ6nachx49WdeZ+2XXfLdWigCcCXh3 ym44vpQC4Qv0iO6bjggVu/Q= =NiOU -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
