New 8.2 install hung on dual AMD Athlon system
Hi- I'm attempting to install suse 8.2 on a dual athlon system. It ran the config utility just fine, allowed me to partition my drives, pick the software and trolled around for a while. It installed the sofware from CD1. But, when it came time for it to reboot and continue with the next section of the install process(CD's 2-5)... it hung. It rebooted fine: 'Book from Harddisk'. GRUB said it was going into 'stage 2', it loaded linux, the welcome screen popped up(with all the languages) and now it's sitting at the chameleon with what looks like a progress bar below him and nothing else. Oh, the keyboard DOES NOT respond. No num lock, no crtl-alt F2 ... nothing. Now, the install recognized all of my drives 2 IDE drives, IDE CDRW, external FW drive and internal USB 2.0 CF card reader (the last 2 are on a joint FW/USB 2.0 PCI card). Standard keyboard, standard mouse(well, with a wheel, but even that worked during the install process) BTW, On the kernel selection, I deselected the k_amd and choose the k_smp I'd really like to know if I can salvage this install or if I need to spend another 90 minutes going through the process again? Should I have selected the default AMD kernel and then later installed and rebuilt with the SMP options? thanks in advance, brian -- Brian Jackson, President Action Athletics "Sports Photography for You" http://www.actionathletics.com
