[opensuse] opensuse 12.1 locks up
Hi everyone, Ever since I installed opensuse 12.1, my system from time to time just locks up. I cannot hit ctrl-alt-backspace twice to get out of X because the keyboard is unresponsive. Ctrl-alt-delete does not work either. The only thing that responds is the mouse, and only to movement, not to clicks on anything. The screen freezes and nothing moves. This last time it happened today I had thunderbird open and was doing some emails, as well as dolphin so that I could look at some files. I was not doing anything extraordinary. I might have had firefox open also for something - I can't remember for sure. There does not seem to be any consistency in what I am doing when it locks up. It happened twice today, so this last time I made a note of the time that it locked up, and I have copied the previous 20 minutes of log entries from /var/log/messages here below. Any help to try and get this problem fixed would be appreciated! Oh also, I am running on systemd and not sysvinit. I don't know if that would have any bearing on the problem, but I am open to suggestions. Here are the log entries. The crash happened at 12:39 on the clock in my system tray. I didn't know how far back in time I needed to copy the logs so here it is. Hi the only thing *I suppose* could be affecting the performance of the system is *jbd2* process of which I honestly don't know much. I feel that this daemon is the main offender of slowing down the overall system since I tried to monitor its presence by *iotop*. By the way if you Googling a bit you can also find that another possible offender could be Conky. Just I ask to myself why some features are enabled by default (Conky, Nepomuk, Strigi for example) if then it could cause such bad behaviours? When I went to 12.1 I began experiencing crashes. In my case it was a BIOS setting that was completely stable under 11.4, but became unstable on 12.1. I discovered this was easily triggered by the more agressive flash player implementation that I installed with 12.1. I see that you found some hardware switches on your motherboard, which when adjusted, made your system stable. I checked my motherboard manual and it doesn't look like I have any of those switches. It doesn't look like it is possible to go back to flash player 10 with opensuse 12.1, as I don't see it in the repositories. I also noticed a comment on your previous forum thread that we should not use packagekit. I notice that in my logs packagekit is seen several times right before the crash. Is there a way to disable packagekit? I am using apper to do regular updates, which if I understand right, communicates with the packagekit daemon to do system updates.
