1. Well, I managed to get the Nvidia build 96 drivers working w/ Xfree86 4.02, and even managed to get some of the mesa demos to run (for benchmarks). I was rather pleased. Then I logged out (from kde). I did not get back to the console, but my screen went black and my monitor went into powersave mode. No amount of hitting keys, moving the mouse, etc. would restore me to the console. Any ideas as to what's wrong and how to fix it. 2. Still stuck at "LIL-" when I try to boot linux (using BootMagic). I have installed the new version of LILO from the SuSE site, I have re-run lilo, ....I even re-installed 7.0 from scratch! I know that getting LIL- means "The descriptor table is corrupt. This can either be caused by a geometry mismatch or by moving /boot/map without running the map installer". But what I don't know is HOW TO FIX IT. I booted 6.4 off this drive w/ BootMagic and didn't have any problems. Here's the drive (20GB Maxtor): /boot ~8 MB swap 512 MB / rest of disk During the latest install this weekend, I told it to install LILO to the /boot partition. This is what I have always done. Any ideas what the problem might be? I will try with answer 1. :-). Oh, with answer 2 maybe you need the -L option for lba32? worth a try maybe? Although easier for me to say... Back to answer 1. First of all, what is your motherboard? Also, did you enable IRQ for VGA and set pnp BIOS to no? I know, simple stuff...In the 0.96 driver source (not the glx one, I take it that is installed) have you checked the os-registry.c file? Its worth knowing whats in there... Check your /etc/X11/XF86Config file it should resemble this: Section "Device" BoardName "GeForce-2" BusID "1:0:0" Driver "nvidia" # nv is the open source alternative Identifier "Device[0]" Option "NvAgp""1" # this is for the AGP driver Screen 0 VendorName "Nvidia" Videoram 32768 # 32 meg card, mine is a GTS EndSection If you need more please let me know Matt On Mon, 12 Feb 2001, Cleary, Mike wrote:

Yes, whats wrong is easy: you are using a binary only driver. How to fix it ? I don't know since none of our X11 developer is able to look at the sources.

Looks like there is a old lilo in the boot sector, not only on the /boot partition. You may try to boot using the boot floppy you used for the installation. There is an option to boot an installed system. Then you can execute /sbin/lilo -v and see what is wrong. Maurizio
