How can I backup my existing Suse 9.1 laptop distribution and restore it on a different computer? Please be specific. I have tared up each directory except /proc. I would like to now be able to restore these tars on a new computer that is not a laptop. This data is very important from A Sans Class. I cannot loose it. What is the best way? Please suggest a program, procedure, etc. I have only a dvd burner and on 35% disk space left on the drive.

To restore, usually when changing HD's on my laptop, I used to boot from timos rescuecd (SuSE 9.1 CD should do), format the new hard drive, mount it and restore with $1 now the and $2 the local mount point . I'm sure someone will tell me I don't need all the rsync options I have, but I filled them out as I read the manpage, they worked and still do, so what the heck. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ....
