[opensuse] openoffice 3.0.0.9 on opensuse 11.1
I recently installed opensuse 11.1 on a box and just tried to start openoffice without success. I installed everything via yast, which says I have 3.0.0.9-1.10 (i586) from openSUSE-11.1-Oss repository. I checked updates and there are none outstanding. I'm running via an ssh session so I typed 'oowriter' and got the response: /usr/bin/oowriter: line 2: /usr/lib/ooo3/program/soffice: No such file or directory which oowriter returns /usr/bin/oowriter, which does indeed say: #!/bin/sh /usr/lib/ooo3/program/soffice -writer "$@" and an ls confirms that soffice does not exist: ~> ls /usr/lib/ooo3/program/ about.bmp fundamentalrc libnpsoplugin.so resource sofficerc versionrc bootstraprc intro.bmp redirectrc setuprc spadmin So I think I've installed in the standard way, but I don't find any similar problem reports. What have I missed? Thanks and regards, Dave -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

You appear to be missing soffice in /usr/lib/ooo3/program did you install OpenOffice_org-libs-core? It contains the executable elements that appear to be missing in your install. -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks Patrick! YaST says that OpenOffice_org-libs-core is NOT installed, so I've installed it. Odd that it wasn't pulled in as a dependency since the oowriter script clearly relies on it. However, I'm not out of the woods yet. Now I see: ~> oowriter soffice.bin: xcb_io.c:454: _XRead: Assertion `dpy->xcb->reply_data != 0' failed. ~> The splash screen comes up briefly before the error message. A quick google threw up a hint about opengl, about which I know nothing. Is there a problem running openoffice over ssh? Not that I am aware, you are running: ssh -X -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yah and yast, firefox etc run OK. But ... ~> glxinfo name of display: localhost:10.0 glxinfo: xcb_io.c:454: _XRead: Assertion `dpy->xcb->reply_data != 0' failed. Aborted Cheers, Dave -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I don't know, above means nothing to me and I have not seen it here.... from searching on google, you are running ati??? there are several posts on google search that describe your problem. The machine I haven't installed 11.1 on does have an ATI card but it's just running the radeon driver, not the ones mentioned in the trouble reports. But it does look as though this problem is some interaction between the specific s/w versions on the two machines. However, I don't normally need to run graphical programs in the way I am at present and I'm not going to mess with the working installation on the non-11.1 machine at this time (it will be upgraded soon), so I'll just ignore the problem for now. The error message looks similar to https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=535549 Unfortunately, it is still not clear what happens there.
The splash screen comes up briefly before the error message. A quick google threw up a hint about opengl, about which I know nothing. Is there a problem running openoffice over ssh?
It should work. -- Best Regards, Petr Mladek software developer --------------------------------------------------------------------- SUSE LINUX, s. r. o. e-mail: pmladek@suse.cz Lihovarská 1060/12 tel: +420 284 028 952 190 00 Prague 9 fax: +420 284 028 951 Czech Republic http://www.suse.cz/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
