Starting Kde from Runlevel 3
Hi, I've just installed 9.0 Pro and everything seems pretty ok. But I discovered that when I start Kde from runlevel 3 with startx, there are lot of error messages, but if I start-up my system normally, it means without 3 in the paramater box from GRUB, none of these messages appears... So, what's going on? Second question, a silly one, how can i switch to Gnome? Thanks

Dunno, I never use startx. Try instead of startx, telinit 5.

Telinit 5 starts the login manager, from which you can choose your X session type. -- "The object and practice of liberty lies in the limitation of governmental power." General Douglas MacArthur Team OS/2 ** Reg. Linux User #211409 Felix Miata *** http://members.ij.net/mrmazda/

... in /etc/inittab, what do you have for: # The default runlevel is defined here id:5:initdefault: ...^.................. if it's a '3', make it a '5'

at the kdm login manager, select 'gnome' from the drop down.
optionally, from runlevel 3, "startx gnome"
if it's not there, you probably dont have it installed. if
it isnt, install it. you can execute 'wmlist' to see what's
installed; example:
mtobler@linux:~> wmlist
kde windowmaker enlightenment blackbox openbox fvwm2 icewm mwm XFce twm
mtobler@linux:~>
