I can't seem to get xine to play the avi files which my Canon SD200 produces. Format not recognised. Xine will play most everything else I throw at it (courtesy of packman of course); is the camera producing a special type of avi file? Any pointers -- please don't tell me to use mplayer -- gratefully accepted, Jake

They're motion-jpeg files, AKA mjpeg. All of the tutorials online say to use mencoder to change them to other, more accessible formats. :) --Danny

Thanks Danny. I'd spotted that mplayer solutions were popular, hoped for a xine solution. I guess I'll have to abandon my hopes in favour of practicality 8). Appreciate you taking the time to answer, Jake

Try installing the newest Microsoft codec package from: http://cambuca.ldhs.cetuc.puc-rio.br/xine/ These packages have solved all my xine problems. Just a thought. -- Made with ___________________________________________ Linux 2.6.8-24.3 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux (SuSE 9.2)

Perhaps if you posted a small sample movie in some downloadable location it would be possible to say why xine isn't handling it?! In general, xine can handle mjpeg through the ffmpeg library

xine will now play my new Canon generated avi files, even though I did not change anything. Perhaps I did something wrong at an earlier stage, ie with the camera itself, before. It is a new camera and I'm no expert, as you'll have gathered. Anyhow, thanks for help. Jake
