SuSE 8.0 problems: DVD unreadable in one DVD-ROM reader
Hi everybody, I have bought SuSE 8.0, and it arrived with the mail yesterday. I installed it on a testing-PC at work, and I must say I'm impressed. Very nice installation, *very* nice end-result. Great job! However, the DVD-ROM in my machine at home can't read the DVD. At work there's no problem. The DVD-ROM at home does read other DVDs and DVD-ROMs, so that's a bit odd. Are there perhaps others who have problems with their 8.0 DVD? -- Jurjen Oskam * http://www.stupendous.org/ for PGP key * Q265230 pro-life bombing bush hacker attack USA president 2600 decss assassinate nuclear strike terrorism gun control eta military disrupt economy encryption 8:58am up 65 days, 21:32, 1 user, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00

[update] ... just found an article in the Support Database about this, at http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/wessels_pioneerdvd.html I have a Pioneer DVD-ROM drive, and it won't read the 8.0 DVD. -- Jurjen Oskam * http://www.stupendous.org/ for PGP key * Q265230 pro-life bombing bush hacker attack USA president 2600 decss assassinate nuclear strike terrorism gun control eta military disrupt economy encryption 8:58am up 65 days, 21:32, 1 user, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00

The latest firmware for my drive (DVD-105S) is 1.33, and that version is available as a region-free version.

There is no UPS attached to this machine, so it's more of a compliment to the local electricity co. than it's a compliment to Linux. :-) (But it's a too powerful machine for what it does, so the load average is nonexistant..) -- Jurjen Oskam * http://www.stupendous.org/ for PGP key * Q265230 pro-life bombing bush hacker attack USA president 2600 decss assassinate nuclear strike terrorism gun control eta military disrupt economy encryption 8:58am up 65 days, 21:32, 1 user, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00
