[opensuse] Cool Temps - Friday Solution
Listmates: I was amazed at what a great no-cost cooling solution did for my server temps and the fans got real quite too: [Phenom 9850 (125W)] f71882fg-isa-0a00 CPU Fan: 2970 RPM CPU Temp: +18.0°C (high = +55.0°C, hyst = +51.0°C) (crit = +60.0°C, hyst = +56.0°C) sensor = thermistor System: +23.0°C (high = +55.0°C, hyst = +51.0°C) (crit = +60.0°C, hyst = +56.0°C) sensor = transistor /dev/sda: ST3500630AS: 28°C /dev/sdb: ST3500630AS: 32°C /dev/sdc: ST3500630AS: 30°C [Opteron 180] k8temp-pci-00c3 Adapter: PCI adapter Core0 Temp: +33.0°C Core1 Temp: +24.0°C [Thunderbird 800] via686a-isa-6000 SYS Temp: +27.5°C (high = +49.7°C, hyst = +44.9°C) CPU Temp: +34.6°C (high = +65.4°C, hyst = +59.9°C) SBr Temp: +22.6°C (high = +44.9°C, hyst = +39.9°C) /dev/sda: Maxtor 6B250R0: 36°C /dev/sdb: Maxtor 6B250R0: 37°C /dev/sdc: Maxtor 7Y250P0: 25°C Solution - cracked the window behind the boxes, outside air temp (39 Deg. Isn't mother nature wonderful? ;-) I built a computer for my son, and sent it to him. While it was here it ran cool. But when he got it, he said it ran hot. Of course that's Southern Cal in the summer. It took me a while to figure this one out. I finally asked where the computer was. Oh, dad, it's in the computer cabinet. Well, open the door. He did, and the temp dropped immediately. It's amazing what a bit of ventilation will do.
