Have finally gotten vsftp started, but still connot log in to it. Followed the SuSE slox knowsedgebase article as much as possible and an email on the web. Still no success. I notice they are using PAM. Maybe that is causing the problem. If I enter the url ftp://localhost:20 in a browser on the server, I get port 20 is disabled, although I do not have the firewall on. Following questions Is there any howto on vsftp anywhere? I have not found one but maybe I didn't look in the right place.. Would I have better luck with wu-ftp server? Tried the tftp that shows up in the network services, but could not get that to work either. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Art

Maybe this site can help you: http://www.vsftpdrocks.org/ Or one of the results from this searc: http://www.google.com/search?q=howto+vsftpd -- "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." - Albert Einstein Mark McKibben http://www.coffeebear.net/

Tcp port 20 is for the ftp data channel in active mode. You must connect to the ftp control channel port, which is tcp port 21, unless you have changed it to a non-standard port number. Timo
