[opensuse] force certain shutdown option (hibernate...) in kde4 ?
Is there a way to influence the list of shutdown options available, say limit it to logoff + hibernate via a configuration file? I don't want to do any coding / recompiling for this. Talking about hibernation, it seems that kde4 currently uses 'plain' hibernation, but there's also the hybrid method available (suspend to disk + suspend to ram usefully mixed). Is that hard-coded ? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

You can add a ‘Lock and log out’ widget to the main panel (or you might already have one, at the bottom right). Right-click on this to configure which options should be shown. I’m not sure if it still ask you a ‘Do you really want too log out / shutdown / …’ question if you click on the buttons, like it does if you use the K menu. My version doesn’t, but I *may* have disabled this in the KDE System Settings, which I recommend doing anyway. Now I just have to slide the pointer to the bottom right corner and click once for my system to shut down. Perhaps those functions should be added to the menu that appears when you right click on the desktop. They're already on the taskbar menu. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

But I'd need that for the kicker application as well. And I'm really looking for _enforcing_ e.g. hibernation. Not just forbidding everything else (and keeping useless entries in the list), but just hibernation to show up as the only option for example. OR to somehow redirect everything else to hibernation. Playing with kdmrc and replacing the 'halt' command with e.g. pm-hibernation does hibernate, but kde doesn't save/restore the session as it thinks it's doing a real shutdown. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Why wouldn't that be sufficient? After all, if it did a proper hibernate, why should the session need restore? -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I'd say policykit is the tool you are looking for. To have a look at what's possible you can use the systemsettings module. However you have to find the files openSUSE uses for policykit and edit them since the module apparently edits the wrong ones, i.e. changes do not have an effect. It seems I need to do some reading. Currently I don't have a good understanding of what these settings really do. Do you happen to know any good starting point for that (except google)? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
