[SLE] ATI All-In-Wonder 128
Well, I got my drive bootable again by putting it in another system and doing the (correct, this time) lilo thing there. I'd still kind of like to know why my 6.2 CD won't boot and why Yast won't read the packages, even after copying them to the HD, but I'll save those questions for another day. Anyway, the original goal was to try to get an ATI All-In-Wonder 128 working in X, which I thought I might be able to do by following the instructions in the SuSE support DB at, http://sdb.suse.de/sdb/en/html/cg_rage128.html Well, the short version of the story is that it doesn't work. All I get when I try to run sax is a band of garbage gfx at the top of the screen. Does anyone else have this board working? If so, how did you do it? I'd like to get this board working if possible.. it's a nice step up from my old one and I'm getting a good price from a friend who got himself a new gfx card. I'm running SuSE 6.1/kernel 2.2.5 but I've previously upgraded X to 3.3.6. The page referenced above says it applies to 3.3.5, which might be my problem. I had just assumed the page had been posted pre 3.3.6 and hadn't been updated, but maybe not. Is this the case or should I look elsewhere for the problem(s)? Just a quick followup.. I was able to get the board working as far as X goes by downgrading to the xf86-3.3.3.1-20 that originally came with 6.1, then configuring with xf86config to use the xsvga driver. I'm sure my config is sub-optimal (in particular I had to use the "no_accel" option in the XF86Config to work around a scrambled-text problem), but it does work. I haven't yet checked into getting Gatos running on it or anything like that. -John John Grant said: [...]
