Try yast, one of the sysadmin options lets you specify your Windowmanager. Try messing around with that and maybe SuSEconfig will rescure it... Matt
been there done that. Nope. maybe uninstall it? Curtis On Tuesday 03 July 2001 21:44, StarTux wrote:

It is likely that the script modified your .xinitrc file, as well as, .xservers. It happened to me one, one of the xfce setp scripts replaced my startup scripts. It saves the original ones in some directory off your home directory, you'll have to search for them. In any case, go to /etc/skel and copy (or compare) .xinitrc, .xserverrc.secure and .xsession. Replace them if necessary. -- Rafael
Yep, it was xinitrc. The last line read "exec fvwm". So I took a chance and changed it to "exec kde" and it worked. I don't know what else xfce did, guess I'll find out. But xfce is now permenently off limits for me. I hate it when programs take over the system like that without any sort of heads up or howto to revert (reminds me of windows - burrrrrrrrr). Thanks RAfael :) Curtis On Tuesday 03 July 2001 22:01, Rafael Herrera wrote:

actually, you want: exec $WINDOWMANAGER otherwise, you will always start kde regardless of your selection in KDM. Best is if you copy /etc/skel/.xinitrc to you home dir. -- Rafael
that did the trick. Thank you very much sir! :) Cheers, Curtis On Wednesday 04 July 2001 07:28, Rafael Herrera wrote:

look in .xfce/.xfwmrc.bak

kdm's menu option kde looks for a program in /usr/X11R6/bin named kde. On my system it's a symlink to /opt/kde2/bin/startkde. Perhaps your symlink got changed?! Anders On Wednesday 04 July 2001 04:42, Curtis Rey wrote:

During installation of XFCE this text below was given, which you should have saved. Restore the original state by doing the reverse. It's those hidden files in your home directory that cause XFCE to start up every time. XFCE setup A new file /home/<user>/.Xclients has been created File /home/<user>/.xinitrc has been moved to /home/<user>/.xfce_bkup/.xinitrc.0627190216 A new file /home/<user>/.xinitrc has been created File /home/<user>/.xsession has been moved to /home/<user>/.xfce_bkup/.xsession.0627190216 A new file /home/<user>/.xsession has been created File /home/<user>/.gtkrc has been moved to /home/<user>/.xfce_bkup/.gtkrc.0627190216 An new file /home/<user>/.xfcolors has been created Installation complete When you're 'out of XFCE' again, it appears not to be possible to log into XFCE with startx xfce. I guess it's best do make a script (using links?) to switch between XFCE and others in an easy way. Hope this has restored your peace of mind. ;-) SH
