[opensuse] openSUSE Updater says it has updates but no updates are found
I'm having some inconsistencies with the "yast2 online_update", "openSUSE Updater" applet and "zypper up". The "openSUSE Updater" in my panel says I have 213 updates available. zypper says I have no updates available (zypper output below); and "yast2 online_update" lists no updates. How do I fix this? @deimos ~] sudo zypper up root's password: * Reading repository 'X11:XGL' cache * Reading repository 'openSUSE:10.3:NonFree' cache * Reading repository 'NVIDIA Repository' cache * Reading repository 'openSUSE-10.3-64' cache * Reading repository 'Packman Repository' cache * Reading repository 'Mono' cache * Reading repository 'LSB' cache * Reading repository 'Main Repository (OSS)' cache * Reading repository 'Main Repository (NON-OSS)' cache * Reading repository 'Mono:Community' cache * Reading repository 'VideoLan Repository' cache * Reading repository 'Banshee' cache * Reading repository 'openSUSE-10.3-Updates' cache * Reading repository 'mozilla' cache * Reading repository 'GNOME:STABLE' cache * Reading installed packages [100%] Nothing to do. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

There are different types of updates. By default, YaST Online Update and
Zypper only look for "patches". The other updates that the openSUSE Updater
refers to are updated packages from other repositories.
You can list these by using "zypper lu -t package". Updating works similarly:
"zypper up -t package".
Hope that helps!
Bye,

That display is rather confusing. It is not at all clear if the version number is the version that is installed or the version that is available. The column labeled S is never explained. -- ----------JSA--------- There are 10 kinds of people in this world, those that can read binary and those that can't. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Hi Lenz, That is interesting. I'm curious why "openSUSE Updater" never clears itself up or says that there are no longer any available updates. I have it install the updates and it turns right around and reports 200+ updates remaining. Over and over again. Odd, wouldn't you say? --Shawn -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Nothing to do.
I'm having the same prob, in KDE3. Everytime I boot up, the applet tells me that there are updates available, but when going in to the utility, there is very seldom anything there, either updates OR patches.... Doesn't concern me unduly at this time, will chase it up. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
