Use YaST > Hardware > Graphics Card and Monitor. It uses SaX, which contains facilities for dealing with Wacom tablets. Otherwise look for a Wacom Howto. I've been using Wacom without problems since SuSE 6.4. It works especially well with Gimp. -- JDL -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I could never get the tablet to work completely in gimp. Works as a mouse but could not get the erased to do anything
It needs setting up in Preferences. In Gimp: File > Preferences Input Devices Configure Extended Input Devices ... you can tell Gimp to treat the Wacom mouse, pen and eraser as different devices from the mouse. This is a good idea because otherwise it won't recognise pressure sensitivity. I usually set these to screen mode. You can also try Window mode. You can save the settings any time and will probably want to save them when working with Gimp. Check the save on exit box. There are two remaining irritations. First, the names of the devices are not exactly helpful: Mouse[1], Mouse[3], Mouse[5], Mouse[7]. Second, if you start changing tools in gimp, you'll forget which tool you have. The second problem is easier. In Gimp: File > Dialogues > Device status tells you what each pointer is doing. You can set the pen to do one thing and the eraser to do another and usually that will work fine. The second problem is trickier. Gimp doesn't let you create aliases for the devices -- maybe someday. Instead, it just uses the names created by xorg. You can change them in xorg.conf. But you need to do this as root and keep a backup of the old xorg.conf file so that you can be sure you can recover if you make a mistake (or at least know how to run sax from a command line). Log in as root and edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf Find occurrences of Mouse[5] (there's usually exactly two of these). Change both to some more meaningful name: I use Pen (when you'sre editing xorg.conf you'll be able to see how I know it's the pen). You must use the same name for both or X won't respond to your Pen. Do the same with Mouse[7], which is the eraser. Optionally do the same with Mouse[3] (Tablet) and even Mouse[1]: I rename it Mouse. The names must all be different from each other and you should change all occurences to make sure xorg can identify which device you are referring to. I don't recall if you are allowed spaces in the names (e.g. "Wacom Mouse") but I imagine you are. Now restart X (log out and log back in as user). Start gimp and configure the extended input devices -- if you've changed names gimp won't know yet. Then everything should work fine. -- JDL -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
