Were you running "make xconfig" as root? And was a non-root user logged on to X? If so, try the following from the non-root user: xhost +localhost Then rerun "make xconfig". -- Robert C. Paulsen, Jr. robert@paulsenonline.net
Don't su in X, sux instead. Example: cd /usr/src/linux sux - password: make xconfig Or use sudo (requires some elementary vi skills, unless you set your EDITOR variable to something else, but why should you -vi rocks!) 1. As root run the command visudo 2. Enter something like this, replacing Anders with your login name: Anders ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD:ALL ( Now you can run commands as root -even in X - without logging in as root if you precede your commands with sudo.) 3. cd /usr/src/linux && sudo make xconfig BTW menuconfig is IMHO far more user-friendly. lördagen den 6 april 2002 23.12 skrev PR:

"sux -" will cd to /root, and you don't find the source code there. All blame on Tryckfelsnisse. Anders -- Common sense is the collection of prejudices acquired by age eighteen. -- Albert Einstein
Well, after I updated to the newest fileutils, 2.4.16 kernel build and install the kernel srcs to go with them. sux no longer works. Wanna take a stab at why? ;) * Anders Dahlqvist (dahlqvist@sundsvall.mail.telia.com) [020407 12:50]: ::Don't su in X, sux instead. ::Example: ::cd /usr/src/linux ::sux - ::password: ::make xconfig :: ::Or use sudo (requires some elementary vi skills, unless you set your EDITOR ::variable to something else, but why should you -vi rocks!) ::1. Stab1: xf86-4.2 maybe? I also have the latest fileutils and kernel 2.4.18 built from Mantel sources and sux works for me, but I use xf86-4.1 since xf86-4.2 gives me a psychedelic display. Stab2: sh -x /usr/X11R6/bin/sux on the other hand fails, reporting /usr/X11R6/bin/sux: line 40: syntax error near unexpected token `<(e' I don't do shell-scripting anymore since I discovered python and ruby, but I can't see anything wrong with that line. Maybe someone else on the list can? söndagen den 7 april 2002 21.54 skrev Ben Rosenberg:
