...I am getting a nice new eserver from IBM to put my nice new package of Email Server III. Currently I am using Qmail 1.03 (A pain in the ass to take care of) My Question for everyone is this. Qmail is currently configured to use Maildir/ structure. Everyone has an account on it, and that account dictates the email addresses on Qmail Is Migration possible from a Maildir structure to a mbox structure that Email Server III uses.(I am assuming that Postfix uses mbox structure.) How about migrating all the user accounts and passwords. Or does Suse Email Server III not create accounts in the system to deliver mail. Am I off on some of my assumptions? If so please tell me. Also one other question...I will keep my server behind a firewall I want to do the following Ext: 66.13.54.x Internal interface: 10.0.0.1 Email Server Network Card on FW 10.10.0.2 Forward 66.13.54.x:360 10.10.0.2:80 66. being the external interface and 10.10.0.2 being the email server III interface I will also need to Forward 10.0.0.1:360 10.10.0.1:80 And Forward 10.10.0.1:25 to 66.13.54.x:25 Does that sound about right? I don't want to allow pop or imap access...I want it all web. Or would it be better to keep my email server behind the firewall on my internal network. Thing is I have external and internal users and I want them both to access it? Am I making sense, or speaking mikeinese. Mike

Postfix can be configured to write to mbox or maildir format. However, there may be complications just moving the messages over since part of the file name of each message may be based on the local time of the server. Sorry I can't be of more help. Lucky for you the E-mail server III comes with SuSE support! Best Regards, Keith --

eMail Server III uses Cyrus imap to store the mail. That is neither mbox or maildir. The only migration-tools I have seen, is from eMail Server II (and our new server got enourmos problems, when we used that tool). All mail-users is stored in a ldap-database and not as users on the system. I am afraid, you have to enter all users again through a browser-interface :-(. mvh... Morten Christensen
When you build the new server, you can dump the LDAP database into a LDIF formatted text file... once you have this format, you can edit the file to add users and then re-import the file to create the users. Once you have this, you can have cyrus create the mail boxes and assuming your clients are using pop, users can then copy mail back into the server. It's a bit manual, but it does work well. There is a scripts on the eMail Server III CD that is designed for migrating from II to III.... you an pick apart the restore script to see most of the steps that you will need to do. - Herman On Wed, 24 Apr 2002, Morten Christensen wrote: ->----- Original Message ----- ->From: "Michael Garabedian" Wednesday, April 24, 2002 9:47 PM ->Subject: [SLE] Email Server III questions... -> -> ->> ...I am getting a nice new eserver from IBM to put my nice ->new package ->> of Email Server III. ->> ->> Currently I am using Qmail 1.03 (A pain in the ass to take ->care of) ->> My Question for everyone is this. ->> Qmail is currently configured to use Maildir/ structure. ->> Everyone has an account on it, and that account dictates ->the email ->> addresses on Qmail ->> ->> Is Migration possible from a Maildir structure to a mbox ->structure that ->> Email Server III uses.(I am assuming that Postfix uses ->mbox structure.) ->> How about migrating all the user accounts and passwords. ->Or does Suse ->> Email Server III not create accounts in the system to ->deliver mail. ->> ->> Am I off on some of my assumptions? Ugh...that sucks but The Cyrus Imap page says you can use Unix passwd files to grant access.

The ldap-database is the advantage of SuSE eMail Server. It gives your users a shared address-book, they can access from most internet-tools (Outlook, Outlook Express and many more.) mvh... Morten Christensen

You can theoretically have LDAP auth against PAM, but I'm not sure how that plays into the Suse side of things. --
Actually, I have almost all of the machines on my network using my mail server (LDAP server) for authentication. With the SuSE boxes, you basically just have to install the ldap client, pam_ldap and setup the pam.d modules. It works great... Solaris 8 also plays well. - Herman Michael Bartosh wrote:
